20 August to 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
FreeFriends of Midhurst Common invite you to a guided local walk.
Come and join the Friends of Midhurst Common for a wonderful guided walk exploring the natural beauty of our local common with information about the plants and animals and historic places.
The guided walk will stop at 6 places and the walk leader will tell the group about points of interest.
On the walk you will see evidence of how tree creepers keep warm on the coldest winter nights, visit the pesthouses, allotments and historic paddock. Spot rare plants and visit the ponds and consider the possibility of creating habitats for Sand Martins and Kingfishers. The walk will take you along the old railway line towards Bepton and pass trees where woodpeckers nest. At the top of Sunset Hill you will be able to see the work the Friends of Midhurst Common have been doing the maintain the heathland.
The walk will take just under 2 hours. Some of the paths have a lot of prominent tree roots to walk over, walking boots or strong lacing shoes are advised. Apologies, but due to the terrain, this walk is not wheelchair friendly. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead and poo-bag at the ready. A dog-poo bin is available at the Carron Lane Car Park.
Prior to the walk participants will receive information on what to bring, safety information and a map.
This is a free event but tickets for places on the guided walk must be booked through the MADhurst Website.
