NEW ENTRY : GUIDED WALK FOR D-DAY TRIBUTE | Sat 31st August
31 August to 11:45 am – 4:00 pm
FreeMADHURST PRESENTS A D-DAY TRIBUTE AND FOYLES WAR.
MADhurst, the Cowdray Heritage Trust and The Midhurst Society invite you to join us for a guided walk around Midhurst to discover the town’s links to D-Day and World War 2 as part of the MADhurst D-Day Tribute on 31 August.
Based on collected stories of Midhurst people, you will discover the commandoes at Cowdray House, the importance of the town if there had been a German invasion, before moving round the town to learn about the impact of a bombing raid on Midhurst and hear stories of the effect of the convoys of troops heading for the D-Day ports.
Starting and finishing outside the Cowdray Ruins Heritage Visitors Centre beside Cowdray Ruins, your guides will be local historian Tania Pons and Phil Stringer. This event is free and is limited to 12 spaces. The walk will start at 11.45 am and lasts for 90 minutes. We will finish in time for the showing of Foyles War at the Memorial Hall at 2pm. A second walk is planned to start at 2.30 – 4pm if there is demand. Please come dressed for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
